Course Description
This four-hour course offers plumbers in Colorado a comprehensive outline of the structure and functionality of residential water heaters. The training also includes valuable resources regarding federal updates to residential energy standards, such as the recent mandate requiring all water heaters to switch to heat pump technology by 2029.
Among the key topics covered in the course are:
- Gas and electric water heater terminology
- Water heater models approved for use in the U.S.
- Water heater components and their operations
- Safety and maintenance protocols
- Plumbing codes and continued learning resources
- Proper methods for sizing and installing units

This course does not include a final exam. Instead, students will be asked to complete a review question at the end of each section with the opportunity to re-examine the relevant course material. Reviews are followed by section quizzes that test participants’ comprehension of the topics covered.
